The deal The main points behind the deal inked by Julia "Butterfly" Hill and Pacific Lumber Co. on Friday: * PL receives $50,000 for the redwood tree named "Luna," some of which came from an advance for Hill's upcoming book. The company, in turn, donates the money to Humboldt State University for scientific research. * Hill agrees to never enter PL land without permission, although she retains the right to visit Luna with 48 hours notice. She also agrees to never do another tree-sit on PL property. * Luna remains undisturbed in perpetuity. * A 200-foot buffer zone around Luna remains to protect the tree. ©1999 Times-Standard Sun, Dec 19, 1999 ; A1
